I garden. I am not too regimented about it. I plant stuff. Some of it grows. We eat. Squirrels eat. Slugs and bugs eat. Quail eat. The idea is to grow enough for all of us.
That said, the jungle that was my garden last year was way to easy for slugs and bugs and squirrels. I am going vertical. I think that will help. Not sure why I think that, but I do... air flow I think.
This goes hand in hand with a post about gourds that I thought I posted... but evidently a) deleted by mistake or b) thought about, but never posted. I will get back to that another time, since the gourd from seed experiment did not go well. Anyway, I'm going vertical. Tomatoes, cucumbers, spaghetti, delicia and butternut squashes and water, catalope and honeydew melons. It is very much an experiment. In fact, I have had no luck with the melons previously... on the ground either, so if this works... well MELON MANIA!
and, I am planting lettuce and stuff under the trellises...more stuff, neater garden, more for humans, less for "wildlife." It's a plan. Ask me in September how it went.
Oh, and I thought I could get by without row cover... why would I think that? Two or three days without, and the quail decimated the lettuce. It is recovering nicely.
P.S. KEN HELPED...ACTUALLY HE BUILT, MY JOB IS TO MAKE THET PLANTS USE THEM. 😀
